Comfort Care and Wound Care

Courtland Gardens Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, formerly Jewish Convalescent & Nursing Home, provides palliative care to help our residents manage pain through traditional and non-traditional methods. Palliative care is also called "comfort care." It is the prevention and relief from suffering. This care not only supports residents but their families as well.

Another debilitating complication in the fight against serious illnesses and long-term immobility can be pressure ulcers. Skin breakdowns can occur when there are vascular insufficiencies, depleted nutrients and/or excess pressure on an area of skin.

Courtland Gardens has professionals who are dedicated to preventing and treating these wounds. They include medical experts, registered dietitians and physical therapists.

One of the successful changes at Courtland Gardens is a hydration program. Hydration carts, reminiscent of the old-time vendor carts, serve beverages to residents. This encourages residents to drink more and to stay hydrated.
